Glued beam

Profiled timber is one of the materials demanded today for building a house. Wooden houses have always been appreciated for their environmental friendliness and attractive appearance. Glued beams, in addition, are even more durable and durable. It comes with a kit, ready for the erection of the walls of the house, given the window and door openings. Reviews of glued beams include minuses and pluses, they can be different, but a lot depends on the manufacturer and the build quality of the house.

Reviews of developers and profiled timber

A glued beam house is expensive and not practical
A comment
There are many obvious advantages in favor of glued beam material: a minimum of finish is required, the assembly is lightning-fast. But today I want to tell you about the minuses, at least with the topic that I encountered during the operation of the house from glued beams. as it turned out later, the material turned out to be of poor quality and the beam is cracking at the moment, the view is terrible. I would not advise you to build a house from this material, a lot of risks and too much spending.
pros
- quick assembly;
- decoration is minimized;
- eco-friendly material, there is nothing better than living in a house made of wood;
- glue is harmful, but not more harmful than ordinary finishing materials;
Minuses
- after about 3 years, the beam began to crack in places;
- the beam began to hunch, I already realized that my main mistake was to purchase low-quality glued timber;
- the high cost of the material;

Now in our country, the material for the construction of glued beams is quite unpopular among the population. But for my part I can say that in vain. The material is completely 100% natural wood, in most cases pine or spruce is used to make glued beams.

Of course, the material is expensive, not everyone can afford to build a house from environmentally friendly materials. In my opinion, when you start living in such a house, you will immediately realize that the money was given for really worthwhile material.

On the example of my cottage, a house of 100 m2 was commissioned to me in 1.5 months. And if I decided to make it out of timber, I would probably have to wait 2 years, no less. In this case, you do not need to wait for shrinkage, you can call in and live, enjoy your home.

I am completely satisfied with the selected material, albeit expensive, but of high quality.
pros
Durable, easy to assemble, thermally efficient.
Minuses
Expensive

Glued beam. Myths about quality and environmental friendliness!
A comment
At the family council, they decided to build a cottage from glued beams, since we had an action on this material. So the proverb about cheese, which is in a mousetrap, worked! Therefore, in my review I want to appeal to all doubters.

The cottage just falls apart before our eyes, it immediately began to darken and crack. Sometimes you go out of town, and you don’t know what “surprise” awaits you. In the first year, all the ends parted, slits of a finger thick. The company refuses to admit its shortcomings. And the low-grade material that they gave out as a real genuine deception (because you can’t check it visually). Door and window openings led, window leaves do not close, and the doors are constantly being pulled up.

I do not want to permanently humiliate the environmental characteristics of glued beams, but after spending an hour in the room, my eyes watery. Maybe I'm allergic to the components of the adhesive? But such a reaction of the body.
pros
Construction speed, low price.
Minuses
Solid minuses: quality, poor insulation, the cost of fixing defects.

more than three years

Glued beams are more durable and more reliable than ordinary beams
A comment
I will say right away - I am a professional builder. By type of activity, I have to listen to opinions with typical misconceptions about the characteristics of glued beams. The technology of its manufacture eliminates the appearance of natural imperfections inherent in the beam and log, such as warpage, cracking and twisting. At the enterprises, after processing, the beam and the log go almost immediately to the construction of a new house and their drying to a certain percentage of moisture occurs already during operation, which leads to the above-mentioned defects.

Glued beams are also made from dried boards, from which all defective places are removed and spliced into a special lock. Their residual moisture is only 10%. Boards are selected in a certain sequence to eliminate any internal stresses. After that, they are filled with moisture-resistant glue and pressed with a hydraulic press. Initially, glued timber, dried and impregnated with a moisture-repellent composition, does not shrink, and in many respects is better than an ordinary timber.
pros
It is stronger than an ordinary bar, any sizes, it is impregnated in the manufacture with moisture-resistant and refractory compounds, short construction periods, no additional finishing is needed
Minuses
More expensive than similar materials and has more weight.

more than five years

The cottage from glued beams is still pleasing.
A comment
In March of this year, we finally bought a cottage, for its construction the owner used glued beams. At first, I doubted for a long time to buy not to buy, re-read a lot of information about the material, but bribed the price, they took it not expensively because people urgently immigrated.

Now about the impressions. As it turned out, stories about the excellent thermal insulation of the material are not a myth. In the summer, despite the fact that the street was often more than +30, the house remained cool, practically did not use air conditioning, and there was enough ventilation. Now, with the advent of winter, we stayed there a couple of times for the weekend, the temperature in the house heats up quite quickly and lasts a long time.

The second concern was the possible smell of glue that is used in the manufacture of timber, but so far I have never felt it, I think that after a year it is unlikely to appear.

Of course, such a period of operation of the building will not allow to fully assess the quality, but I hope I was not mistaken, until I refrain from recommendations, and there you decide.
