Double beam

In the northern regions, houses from timber cannot withstand low temperatures, so they have to either be heated more strongly or insulated from the inside. Both that, and another costs quite expensive. According to the owners, the double beam is able to at least partially solve this problem. The technology was developed in Finland, but is also successfully used in Russia. In fact, this is a wooden wall sandwich, on both sides of which is a tree, and in the middle - insulation. Such a house almost does not shrink, it is built quickly and inexpensively.

Reviews on the use of a double beam for building walls of a house

Double beam, 4 years later.
A comment
I ordered such a house, 160 squares in the company. Built, I live the fifth year, I like everything. And I liked the company and the material is cool, my parents have a house of glued beams, I like mine better. And warmer and cheaper. It looks almost the same, painted inside with oil, outside with paint, everything is beautiful. I ordered at the Baumhaus company, if anyone is interested.
pros
Quickly
Inexpensive (relatively, but for a fully finished, insulated house it’s quite good for itself)
handsomely
Heat
Minuses
In the first year I got a little hooked, I had to adjust windows and doors 2 times a year, but this is nothing for a wooden house, a bearable moment.

Nice house

We chose this technology because it was necessary quickly over the winter to replace the old garden house with a new one, so that by May everything would be turnkey ready. I really wanted glued beams .... but not afford, dry profiled is also not cheap. And this one looks like a bar, and the price is like a frame. For a month they put the house up, worked in April.

They didn’t do any interior decoration, and soaked everything. Beauty, right eco house, all made of wood, floor walls, doors. Outside is also impregnated. We have a heating stove, a furnace made of talc magnesite, a house of 100 square meters with a second light, heats it all up to 20 degrees in 4 hours. But during the night it cools down to about 16 below, warmer on the top. (In winter) We do not constantly live there, we come. And the frosts were not yet strong. So I think, can it stand it?

If for a long time, I console myself that electric heating can be added ..... The house shrinks! Decent, about 5 cm over the summer, there are no cracks in the tongue, well, maybe a couple, but the grooves are driving ... it will separate, then converge. He is alive. Probably like any natural tree. While the locks were not punched into the interior doors, they had already planed them several times ...
pros
Fast, not expensive, beautiful

Shrinkage

My double-bar home
A comment
Good day to all!

I read different opinions about the double beam. I’ll tell you about my house, built on the technology of a double beam. I chose for a long time on the market what to build from and I didn’t even understand how I decided to build essentially from planks .. Then I just realized it was a wooden house, but I didn’t have to wait until it was settled (it was promised that it would not shrink - the material is dry).

Well, in general, they built it: they built walls with wiring, made the roof of flexible tiles, the walls were blown out very densely ecologically (he stood looking, and his foreman stood out): the floors are blown 25 cm, the roof 20 cm, as well as all the interior walls ; installed windows (five-chamber with triple glass), well, and put the doors (the front door is winter). Heating - electric megadores (maximum total power per house - 5.5 kW). Built in the summer. Domokomplekt prepared from January to April.

Next is the house (two floors of 150 sq.m.with ceilings of 2.75 m on a pile-screw foundation) was a year (he was standing up with heating) and everything seemed normal - I'm not a builder, of course, you can even say an amateur. The temperature sensor showed +23 on the ground floor, and on the second it’s generally hot at a temperature of -20 overboard, and this is not at full megador power.

A year passed and decided to do the interior decoration of bathrooms, etc. Done, stopped. Everything was cool .. BUT !!

The second year came and .. it went off: the house began to sit down. Someone wrote in a review about two percent, but with a height of 7 meters, for example, this is 14 cm of shrinkage of the finished house !!! This is awesome for me! The outer ends of the house were covered with cladding - it burst everywhere! Outside the house, boxes went to the outside lighting - so arched that horror !! Naturally, the same thing burst near the window openings, the closet was almost breaking (the chisel master knocked out the guides and released the doors), the doors all stopped closing !!

I'd like to believe that the shrinkage is over. But time will tell ..

Once again I say - I'm not a builder! And catch up with many moments from the World Wide Web. And where the jamb happened the same I can not understand. By the way, there are still no gaps in the house, the heat loss is the same, however, as the construction company that made me the home kit ..
A dry tree is probably only in the Stradivarius violins !! And he is a wooden house and a wooden one - one hell will sit down, only now when is the question !?
pros
Environmentally friendly, warm, minimal costs for interior decoration (sanded inside, painted outside and live), durable, practical. In fact, there are a lot of pluses.
Minuses
I have only one minus - shrinkage !! Well, and how are the serious financial costs associated with the interior decoration arising from this ....

The double beam of all wooden technologies is the best!
A comment
Do not listen to any ill-wishers. The house is really good. Costed about 2.5 million. Attic. With a foundation (concrete pile-grouted 7x10), With a roof (velvet metal tile), with insulation (ecowool, 130 mm of the wall, 200 mm of the floor, floor, roof). All internal walls are also capital and insulated. If you make the walls single-layer, then perhaps it will turn out not very smooth and there will be no sound insulation. So it’s better not to save. This I indicated the price without windows and doors, without electrics and plumbing. When I installed all this, with floors (grooved board) and heating (Zebra infrared ceiling), and with exterior painting (Tikkurila covering), it turned out about 3 million rubles. I can’t even say if it’s expensive or not. Some gasp, they say expensive, - Others ask incredulously, - they say something is too cheap. In general, how many people, so many opinions. And so at all for the price of two in the city. 2016 prices.

The house keeps warm. Once, once a day, with the heating turned off, only six degrees the temperature dropped (I hung thermometers in each room to control the heating). But all the same, gradually, one at a time, I warm the windows and doors. All the same, electricity consumption is too big for me. 1200 - 1300 kW per month. And in the cold months (-25 -30 degrees) up to 1800 kW reels. Well, something like that, the Plan installers promised. Interestingly, on the second floor, the plan practically does not turn on. There is enough heat from below. Goes up the stairs. Now about the slots. As soon as the heating was turned on, a gap appeared on the inner walls above the doorways around the circumference. Worried, ran to the company that was building. He showed photos, shouted. Neighing What's so funny, I ask.

They got their pictures, those houses that they built for themselves. And there they have the same story. They explained that the internal walls dry faster when the heating is turned on than the external ones. In the summer, they say everything will fall into place. And so it happened. Although they advertise that the tree is dry, it still shrinks. When you check it with the device, the humidity is normal, but in the depths of the tree, humidity is still preserved. And then she comes out. Something like that. So there is no completely dry tree. Is that a stool from the IKEA store. There the tree is definitely dry. And I have stood the whole house with open windows all summer. I thought it would dry, and still not completely dry.

The company was building. From the foundation to the roof. I recommend contacting only those companies that have been building such houses for at least five years. What would people with experience be. Boards themselves from the factory where glued beams are made. The material is the same. In general, build and fear nothing. Go on an excursion to those houses that are being built, look, jump, touch. Ask those who have been living for several years. They will only praise. And living in this house is a pleasure.
pros
Breathable house, no films, polystyrene, glue. I don’t want to be in the city anymore, I’ve been pulling to the country all the time.
Minuses
In my opinion, in comparison with timber and log houses there are no minuses

Perfect technology. Just no words!
A comment
Technology got me interested right after I saw it from a neighbor! his house stood for three years and at the time when I paid for heating in the winter of 3000 p. for 60 sq.m. he paid for 90 sq.m. only 800 rubles! I really thought that saving on heating is just crazy! built a house for parents, lived half a year, the house gives a little shrinkage about a couple of percent! but this was not reflected in the constructive structure of the house! At first I thought the slots would be cosmic, but then the neighbor said that in a year everything would disappear, the house would settle. In short! best option price quality!

Double beam - today the best alternative to all wooden houses!
A comment
At first I thought about a log, but it was embarrassed by prolonged shrinkage, then I considered glued beams, but it is very expensive, then I studied frame housing construction, and in the end I settled on double-beam technology.

It attracts me:

1) in comparison with a log, much better heat efficiency, almost complete shrinkage, the absence of cracks and cracks;

2) in comparison with glued timber, the absence of adhesive compositions, thereby achieving high environmental friendliness;

3) and, finally, compared with the skeleton, the so-called "breathing wall", like a log house, because There are no vapor and waterproofing films.

Summing up the comparison, I’ll say: this technology has incorporated all the advantages of wooden houses and eliminated almost all the disadvantages (the only drawback I see in the periodic processing of the house, but here it all depends on the chosen coating). Built from high-quality dry wood (chamber drying), sawn according to the project. Those. and here the possibility of "messing up" is excluded, as, unfortunately, many Russian builders love.
pros
Minimum shrinkage; lack of glues, cracks, cracks; factory manufacturing and chamber drying; there is no need to rent cranes and other special equipment, as one element (maximum length 5.75 m, thickness - 45 mm, height 135 mm) can be filed with one hand, and it is also not necessary to rent scaffolding, as the outgoing ends of the cuts are lengthened and a transverse board is laid (then they are simply sawn off); very high heat efficiency and, as a result, low power consumption at home (in my case, the house in my absence cooled down with all the heaters turned off from + 24 ° C to + 16 ° C per day); high environmental friendliness and "breathability" of the house.
Minuses
The need for processing and protecting walls.

The technology is good, but what kind of timber is it?
A comment
When they talk about the technology of construction from a double beam, they mean that the board (grooved into a double spike) is connected by cutting into the castle of the crown grooves. It also happens during the construction of glued beams. From here, as I understand it, and the name. Only here, according to GOST, 45 mm is not a bar (there should be a minimum of 100 mm in width and height), some boards or bars. From experience, I can say that the construction is quite rigid and solid (I have already built more than one such house, as I do it professionally) thanks to the layers. In fact, this is the same frame house, where the frame = stiffeners.
pros
Building on this technology allows not to additionally clad the internal and external surfaces of the wall (it will be replaced by a “bar” with appropriate treatment). It is quite simple to work with it: easy, smooth, quickly and easily fit. It costs less than a house from a double beam in 1.5, or even two times.
Minuses
It is necessary to competently check how well the boards are dried and wisely choose and lay (blow) the insulation, otherwise the house can give a lot of shrinkage and not be warm enough.

A double-bar dacha is beautiful, inexpensive, but not warm
A comment
I know little about all the intricacies of the construction of our summer house of their double beam. I can share the result of the construction. First of all, I was very pleased with my husband's message about the price of the material and the obvious benefit when buying such a beam. The next good news was that a month after the start of construction, I can begin to equip the home.

When I first went into the room, I could not understand if I liked the smell or not. Such a strong woody aroma somewhat alarmed me. I was afraid that there was some kind of harmful impregnation.

Disappointment befell when we arrived at the cottage to celebrate Christmas. The room was cool, despite several hours of operation of two heaters. Therefore, they did not decide to stay for the night.

Double beam - an alternative to the classic beam
A comment
I was attracted by the price of the material and the speed of assembly using a double beam. I looked at the material and made a logical conclusion that the house will be warm and no problems in the future await me. Not mistaken!

Material: pine, partition thickness 50 mm, insulation - mineral wool with increased density. Sawn timber is well dried, without a peeling. Therefore, I did not observe any curvature of the structure for two years. There are no cracks, the color of the material is still light and fresh.

A team of four assembled the entire house in two weeks. The aroma of coniferous forest attracted the attention of neighbors, and they decided to build a bath from a double beam. The smell of pine in my house did not disappear after two years of operation. Being in such a room is a pleasure. And the youngest daughter in the new house completely ceased to hurt.
Tip: very carefully choose the material, and if you yourself do not understand, then invite a specialist.

Double beam deservedly receives praise
A comment
Village I, always sought out of town. I decided to use a double beam for the construction of the house, moreover certified. I liked that the timber was evenly and qualitatively dried. Immediately appreciated the low weight. Domokomplekt fully installed without special equipment.

As a heater between two bars I used Ecowool. It needs to be blown tight. Otherwise, it will inevitably settle. Strength, like profiled timber, but with significantly higher heat retention. It comes at the price of a milled log. No fuss with extra warming.
