What is endova and what is its structure
Today you will not surprise anyone with an ordinary roof with a modest two slopes. Many developers want something more creative, and they choose projects of houses with a complex roof. Well, for example, hipped or hip - both of them look very beautiful. However, the intricate shape of the roof and requires additional elements. Today we will talk about one of them, bearing the name endova - what it is, interests many who are just beginning to understand the construction of the roof of the house.

What is the endova and its purpose
So, a valley is a connecting element between two planes of a complex roof in the place of its fracture. But, unlike the ridge, it is placed where the roof slopes meet with each other, forming a negative angle.
The purpose of the endows is simple: to prevent water and various debris from getting under the roof.
In fact, they serve as a kind of gutters to help remove all this from the roof. The more complex the configuration of the roof, the more joints it has. Accordingly, such protective gutters will also be required more.
Roofs requiring the installation of such elements can be very diverse. Typically, endovs are placed on cruciform roofs, as well as those made in the form of the letters “G” or “T”. Most popular are T-shaped roofs. Do not forget about the bends of the roof, which may be on the protruding windows of the attic or dormer windows. By the way, keep in mind that increasing complexity roof structures sufficiently affect the cost of work. And servicing an intricate roof in the future will also not be very cheap.
In order not to miss anything, it is advisable to draw up a detailed plan, which indicates all the adjoining roofs. This plan is then broken into separate rectangular and square parts. The largest rectangle is the house itself, and the extensions are indicated by small squares and rectangles. Having marked the runs, they connect the corners of the roof of the house with the corners of the roofs of the annexes. That's how the places of our future gutters are determined in advance.
Important: if you incorrectly think out the device of the valley, you can pay too much for it. And the result can be not only streams of water from the ceiling, but even a collapsed roof. This is quite possible if the snow will not be removed from the roof, but accumulated on it in large quantities. Therefore, it is worth consulting with specialists who will take into account both wind loads and sedimentary loads. After all, everyone remembers the saying about the stingy one who paid twice.
How different types of endow are arranged
There are two types of valleys - lower and upper. The bottom should provide reliability and tightness, and the top, mainly performs a decorative function. Therefore, the lower valley is made of a durable galvanized steel strip that protects the space under the roof from water. The edges of this wide falshenda (that's what it is also called) are bent so that the water does not overflow. And its lower edge is located above the cornice.

Well, the upper bar, protruding above the bottom by 15 or 20 centimeters, is designed to beautifully cover the junction. She doesn’t have to be strong, and it is usually made of roofing material, and is mounted only after the roof covering has been completely laid.

To prevent the endova from sagging, they put a continuous crate of edged boards treated with an antiseptic under it. This helps withstand heavy loads (in the form of snowdrifts, for example). In some cases, waterproofing is laid on the crate.

Joints of roofing planes, covered by a valley, can adjoin or connect in three different ways.Accordingly, the endow according to the installation method can be open, closed or interwoven (articulated).
#1. Open endova is the simplest solution. It’s only possible to use it only on roofs that differ in not very steep slopes. With this installation method, the roof joints have a gap in which our groove is located. It is fixed with roofing screws screwed through 30 centimeters. Installation of the lower endova starts from the bottom up. For reliability, they put waterproofing under the bottom. At the end, a decorative upper endova is mounted (from bottom to top, with a ten-centimeter overlap of individual parts).
#2. Endova closed is used on roofs in which the angles between the roofing planes are sharp. The joints of the roofing material in this case are tightly connected to each other, passing over the valley.
#3. The endova intertwined is also completely covered by the roof, but individual rows of roof sheets, on adjacent planes, are intertwined.
The choice of type of valley depends on the angle of inclination of the slope and the roofing material used.
On the disadvantages and advantages of all three types of endov
An open valley:
- Simple and very fast runoff of water and melted snow from the roof;
- Installation takes a little time;
But:
- The appearance of the open gutter is not as presentable as the elements of a closed or articulated form.
A closed or bound endow:
- Very attractive appearance.
But:
- Installation takes longer than with the open method.
So we examined what a roof is. As you can see, she only has a cunning name and not everyone knows, and the essence is very simple. And you cannot do without this important element of the roof, otherwise the roof will leak in a very short time.
