Reviews on the use of underfloor heating under the laminate

Warm floor (cable) under linoleum
A comment
I decided to make a small office out of the old cluttered loggia (rear balcony). In the role of heating, I chose a warm floor (cable) under a thin layer of screed and Lenoleum after 3 months, the linoleum led a little, pulled out from under the baseboards. I attribute this to the uneven temperature under it (since the technology indented the walls and didn’t go under the furniture under the furniture) and the floor itself worked for 3 years, the whole problem with the cord. Now I find out the reasons for the breakdown.

Water floors under linoleum - a positive experience
A comment
Our family (husband, me and three children) lives in his house. Recently, we had a son, who will soon begin to crawl. Had to think about crawling on the floor he was not cold. Of the various options we have chosen warm water floors, they can be installed under different surfaces. We put linoleum semi-commercial type which is allowed to be used as a floor covering.

They leveled the surface of the floor, placed heat-insulating material on it, and then a flexible pipe (heated water flows in it). We use a gas boiler - this is a great advantage, because we do not wait for the seasonal on / off of the general heating. The water temperature of the underfloor heating is regulated by a gas boiler. Installation of water floors was not expensive. The surface of linoleum remained smooth. The floors are heated evenly, while electricity is not consumed. The husband, I and the children are pleased that the legs are warm.
pros
Indicated in the recall above
Minuses
The only drawback of such floors is the possible leakage of the pipe if it deteriorates. But eternal things and materials do not exist.

Infrared warm floor and linoleum - did not take root
A comment
After five years of living in a new apartment, I decided to change the gender in it. After hearing about the development of technologies for home comfort, I decided that I would remove the old linoleum in the kitchen, and instead put the infrared warm floor and the new linoleum on top - this material is convenient for such a room where you can accidentally spill a plate of borsch.

Professionals laid me a layer of infrared floor. The very next day, I myself laid down a brand new linoleum and arranged a check of everything in the system. The surface of the floor really quickly warmed up.

In happy ignorance, I lived for about a couple of months, until linoleum began to warp a little. To understand, I had to move all the furniture again and remove the affected coating. Perhaps I made a big mistake by immediately putting linoleum on the infrared floor - it was heating up too much, and when cooling down - to deform. It might be necessary to put plywood between the heating layers and linoleum, but then more electricity would have to be spent to heat all this.

As a result, I could not refuse the infrared layer (and it's a pity when I already bought it), so linoleum was sent to the country, and I put a laminate on the heater, which heats up faster without bad consequences. But this whole story came to me a pretty penny, and even the payment for electricity consumed by an infrared miracle is quite large. However, if you basically chose a warm floor, then the option with a laminate is suitable as the most economical and at the same time effective.

Given all the nuances, you can

The need to install a warm floor in our house has ripened for a long time. And to take this step we were prompted by neighbors who vied with each other to praise comfort, the safety of laying a warm floor under linoleum.

Since I was far enough from this topic, I put a semi-commercial type linoleum on the mounted underfloor heating. And for almost a year now he has been lying on the warm floor. True, it should be noted, since linoleum was purchased already for the purpose of laying it on a warm floor, we tried to choose a floor covering of small thickness with a special pictogram allowing it to be laid on a warm floor.
pros
Despite some concerns, linoleum did not fade during this time, there are no extraneous odors. The flooring has fully retained its original appearance. Another advantage of using a warm floor under linoleum is the heat preservation for a long time - the warm floor has been turned off for a long time, the floor tiles in the kitchen have cooled down, and it is still nice to walk on linoleum - it is still warm.
Minuses
If you use cheap types of linoleum, then, as knowledgeable people say, in a month such flooring will turn into an accordion. To prevent this, thermostats should be used that will not allow to exceed the heating temperature above 300-330C.

Heated floors for linoleum - I think it's not worth it
A comment
When my husband and I decided to change linoleum in the kitchen, then we thought: should we make underfloor heating?

First of all, we turned to the store to the sellers - consultants. But they themselves knew little about this. Then we decided to climb the construction forums on the Internet. And then they were faced with a sharply negative opinion of forum users about laying TP specifically under linoleum.

I summarized their arguments, and this is what happened:

· Linoleum needs high-quality, which means it is very expensive.

· A cheap one can go accordion, swell, change color.

· There should be a special badge on the linoleum for TP (we didn’t find this in our city).

If the temperature exceeds +28 degrees, then linoleum can emit harmful substances, become soft, etc.

· It is imperative to install a temperature controller for the radiator.

This information did not satisfy me. She began to ring friends and acquaintances.

To be honest - under linoleum, only one family made an electric floor heating. And their opinion was sharply negative. Until they turned on the heating (it was summer) - everything was fine. Everything looked fine, it was just nice to walk, the linoleum lay evenly.

When they began to use heating, problems began. On the surface there were marks from everything - from furniture legs, from toys played by a child, from heels. In some places, linoleum even warped.

As a result, as a friend said, they barely waited for spring to remove and discard the coating - it was not suitable for further use. They replaced linoleum with tiles - and did not regret it!

Having discussed everything with my husband, we decided to abandon linoleum and take the tile. And did not regret it. Of course, this is only our opinion. Someone has a positive experience. Well, we wrote about our search for the best option for us.
pros
We did not find them.
Minuses
Linoleum coating deteriorates faster due to temperature and begins to become more damaged and deformed.

What warm floor do I recommend for my customers?
A comment
I have long been an experienced builder and have long been engaged in the repair of apartments and houses. Very often, customers are asked to install in some of their rooms the so-called "warm floor" - a special device for heating the floor and creating a favorable and comfortable microclimate in their rooms.

If everything is as simple as possible when installing this kind of flooring under ceramic tiles, then installing a warm floor under a linoleum coating has some certain nuances. They are connected, first of all, with the fact that linoleum, as a very sensitive and relatively soft material, in itself needs a perfectly even base for laying.

This is one of its fatty disadvantages for any options for underfloor heating produced by foreign and domestic industry in a fairly diverse assortment. In other words, the inconvenience is determined by the need on top of the heating mats to additionally mount a flat and at the same time solid surface (for example, from OSB or fiberboard). However, comfort is expensive, but it justifies them in the future.

After going through a certain number of different options, I settled on CALEO underfloor heating models - reliable and high-quality films, equally neutral in cost and quite suitable for customers with any repair budget. The choice fully justifies itself - the customer receives exactly the option that he presented, while subsequently significantly saving money on paying for the coolant and has a healthy microclimate combined with the aesthetic properties of the selected linoleum. This is his undeniable dignity.
